Amorim needs three years at Man Utd - Ratcliffe
""He has not had the best of seasons," said Ratcliffe. "Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That's where I would be.""
""The press, sometimes I don't understand," he said. "They want overnight success. They think it's a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it's all going to be roses tomorrow. "You can't run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.""
""He has not had the best of seasons," said Ratcliffe."
Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United from Sporting and will complete a year as manager in November. United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, their worst position since the 1973–74 relegation. The club spent over £200m in the summer yet have already lost three league games and were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two Grimsby. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns just under 30% of the club through Ineos and controls major football decisions, intends to allow Amorim three years to demonstrate he is a great coach and rejects calls for instant changes prompted by media pressure.
