All-Time Dodgers Quarter-Century Team: No. 17, Shawn Green
"Months before the start of the new century, the Dodgers completed a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays to acquire Shawn Green. L.A. also received Jorge Nuñez in the deal that sent Pedro Borbón and Raúl Mondesí to Toronto. Green had a solid first season with the Dodgers in 2000, as he led the Majors by appearing in all 162 games and hit 44 doubles."
"Green famously slugged four home runs en route to going 6-for-6, good for a record 19 total bases. Entering the game, Green was mired in a four-week span without a long ball. He became the 14th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game. Green set franchise records for home runs, runs scored and total bases in a single game. He also collected seven RBI in the Dodgers' 16-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers."
The Los Angeles Dodgers have recent dynasty credentials with multiple World Series titles but exhibit mixed postseason success since 2000. DodgerBlue.com ranked the best Dodgers players of the last 25 years and placed Shawn Green at No. 17. The Dodgers acquired Green from Toronto before 2000 and he produced a strong rookie season in Los Angeles, playing all 162 games and hitting 44 doubles. Green's power dipped to 24 home runs in 2000 but rebounded to a career-best 49 homers in 2001, a franchise record until 2024. Green's peak came May 23, 2002, with four home runs, a 6-for-6 game, 19 total bases and seven RBI in a 16-3 win over Milwaukee.
