Dave Roberts sets goal for Hyeseong Kim in Triple-A
Hyeseong Kim was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City due to a continued slump, coinciding with the Dodgers re-signing Santiago Espinal. The plan to send Kim down for Alex Freeland was delayed when Kiké Hernández suffered a left oblique injury, keeping Hernández on the roster longer. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the move aims to provide Kim regular at-bats and give Freeland additional runway at second base. Kim hit .186/.250/.186 over his last 15 games and .236 with a .551 OPS over his last 30, dropping his overall line to .259 with a .651 OPS. Despite value from his glove and speed, he has struggled to produce consistent quality at-bats at the Major League level, and his season has followed a pattern similar to last year’s late-season offensive decline.
""We optioned him just to kind of get Hyeseong back on track, to get some regular at-bats," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained. "We're going to give Alex Freeland a little bit more runway at second base.""
