""We want all our residents to live in homes that are safe, warm and dry. The delay in the completion of fitting suitable replacement windows is not acceptable and we would like to apologise to Ms Cox. "We have been in regular contact with Ms Cox during this period, however access to her home is important for timely repairs and to allow us to complete the outstanding work as quickly as possible.""
""Needless to say we are freezing," Ms Cox said. "There has never been a sense of urgency. The heating has also been broken and Camden have known about this for ages.""
""aggravated by damp and fungus growing on the kitchen and bathroom walls""
Charlie Cox and her daughter have lived for six years in an Edwardian-era Camden council property with persistent broken windows and cold conditions. Contractors visited repeatedly but did not provide a permanent solution; a first contractor installed windows more than 3cm too small and was dismissed. The heating has been broken for an extended period. The property is damp with fungus on kitchen and bathroom walls, aggravating severe asthma in the household. Camden Council apologised, called the delays unacceptable, explained the need for specialist contractors due to the building's age, and said it is arranging access to complete repairs.
