""Do no harm"."
""you are actually not only doing London some harm, but the wider country some harm""
""Invest in London because there is need here - but also invest in London because it leads to investment in the rest of the country - it is the engine of economic growth.""
London contributes about £50 billion more to the Treasury annually than it receives and accounts for roughly a quarter of UK GDP. Despite that wealth, one in 50 Londoners is homeless and boroughs spend £5.5 million every day on temporary accommodation. Fears exist that planned wealth or property taxes and local government finance reforms could disproportionately damage London and reduce funding for crucial City Hall and Transport for London projects. City Hall and TfL propose extending the Docklands Light Railway to Thamesmead to unlock tens of thousands of new homes. Thamesmead was named as one of 12 new towns, but funding remains uncertain and delays would be a major setback for the mayor's housing and transport ambitions.
