The City of London plans to express disapproval of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after he did not respond to a letter asking him to relinquish his Freedom of the City of London. He received the Freedom in 2012 by virtue of patrimony because his father, Prince Philip, was a Freeman. The Freedom is a legal right inherited through family status and is largely ceremonial, though it is still awarded regularly. The City says there is no effective legal mechanism to remove a Freedom. The Freedom includes the tradition of walking sheep over London Bridge.
