"Senior programme sponsor for Network Rail, Paul Richmond, said: "The lifting into place of the new footbridge is a significant moment and means that people can see first-hand the scale of the work to make Hither Green an accessible station for the first time." The programme is managed by Network Rail and funded by the Department for Transport and is due to be completed by next summer."
A new footbridge has been installed at Hither Green station in south-east London to improve accessibility. The bridge was hoisted into place using cranes and positioned across the railway tracks to connect all platforms. New entrances will be created at Fernbrook Road and Springbank Road. The upgrade programme also includes four 16-person lifts, new staircases, and a passageway between platform 4 and 5. After completion, step-free access will run from street level to the footbridge and across all platforms. Additional improvements include new CCTV, a public announcement system, ticket vending machines, and Oyster card readers. The work took place on 2 May and is scheduled to finish next summer.
