Ignoring this won't make it go away
"Imagine thinking ignoring the gestapo will make them stop. We all know Portland has been, not perfect, but not a war zone. The fascists in charge will say whatever they want. There is no rising to the bait. The Mayor, People for Portland, City Council, and Portland Business Alliance are reaping what they have sown. There's a million ways to"
"protest. Get out there and do it. You can make a difference. They're here to disappear your friends, your neighbors, anyone they don't like. Eventually, even you. Don't limit yourselves to a vigil in one place. Fascists need to interact with the rest of the community. Don't let them. They are violating the social contract by their very existence. Remind them of it. Loudly, quietly,"
Do not assume ignoring a violent, authoritarian force will make it stop; active resistance is necessary. Portland has not been a war zone, though problems exist. Local leadership and business alliances share responsibility for enabling hostile actors. Numerous methods of protest exist and individuals can make a difference through sustained action. Armed elements intend to disappear neighbors and friends and will eventually threaten anyone. Protests should extend beyond single-site vigils to prevent hostile forces from integrating with the community. Such forces violate the social contract by their existence. Confrontation can be loud, quiet, or varied, as required.
