Eighty-five-year-old Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) announced he will run for an 18th term in Congress after being asked by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to join his leadership team. Clyburn signed paperwork Thursday to qualify for the Democratic nomination. He stated he felt necessary and equipped to serve another term, turning 86 in July. Clyburn has served since 1992 and is among the oldest members of Congress, though not the oldest. He is recognized as a Democratic kingmaker in South Carolina, credited with endorsing Joe Biden during the 2020 Democratic primary.
