"For legal ops, it's a paradox: achieving the discipline's goals requires using AI and automation to achieve savings and efficiencies. Yet by doing so, will they automate themselves out of a job? Here's an example: CLOC yest"
Agentic AI is approaching a point where AI agents can perform many tasks currently done by people, such as preparing a grocery list. The key decision becomes what to leave in and what to leave out of automated work. Legal operations focuses on right sourcing, speed, quality, and costs, and these goals can be pursued through automation and agentic agents. This creates a paradox for legal ops: using AI to drive efficiencies may also reduce the need for the discipline’s traditional work. The challenge is to apply automation to improve outcomes while redefining legal ops value in an increasingly automated environment.
