Rev. Jesse Jackson, 84, died Tuesday morning while hospitalized and was surrounded by family. Jackson rose from being an aide to Martin Luther King Jr. to becoming a prominent civil rights leader who helped shift the Democratic Party toward a multicultural approach. He founded the Rainbow Coalition to unite activists advocating civil rights for diverse communities. Jackson was the first presidential candidate to include support for LGBTQ+ rights in a campaign platform and publicly supported marriage equality. His family described him as a servant leader committed to justice, equality, and love. Funeral information will be provided.
