"The worst part, for me, was the number of Christians who used Scripture to justify hurting children. So let's talk about that. The first two lines of the Bible, the first two lines in Genesis, use two different Hebrew words to describe God. One is the masculine Hebrew noun for divinity; the second is the feminine Hebrew noun for spirit. God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between. God is nonbinary."
"Trans children are God's children made in God's own image. There is nothing wrong with them, nothing at all."
James Talarico, a Texas state representative, secured the Democratic primary nomination for U.S. Senate with 52.9% of the vote, defeating U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett who received 45.7%. Following his victory, the National Republican Senatorial Committee launched an attack campaign highlighting Talarico's 2021 statement that "God is nonbinary," made during a speech opposing an anti-trans sports ban. Talarico, a Christian, had criticized fellow Christians for using Scripture to justify legislation targeting transgender children. He argued that the Bible describes God using both masculine and feminine Hebrew terms, making God nonbinary, and emphasized that transgender children are made in God's image with nothing wrong with them.
