Gay dad targeted in fake MAGA interview slams 'exploitation for viral content'
"“I realised that we were manipulated into having this interaction with someone who was exploiting us for viral content.”"
"“When someone inserts themself into a specific community, with the intention of triggering people, it's not freedom of expression, it's exploitation.”"
"“I don't really think this is about him. This isn't about one specific content creator, this is about an incentivised institution. This is about large platforms telling youthful audiences what works and not being held accountable.”"
"“The wrong person spent the night in jail.”"
David Vulin and Anthony Vulin criticized content creators who target LGBTQ+ communities for viral attention. David was arrested in April on a felony vandalism charge after an encounter with MAGA influencer Ryley Niemi, who approached the couple while they were walking with their young son Ante. Niemi allegedly posed as a CNN interviewer, questioned them about raising their son without a mother, and about child abuse. Footage showed the couple trying to leave before the situation became physical. More than $100,000 was raised for legal costs through GoFundMe. David said the interaction was exploitative and that accountability should extend to platforms and institutions, not just individual creators.
