""demonic," "anti-Christian," and "harmful" to children"
""We can't thank Pensacola enough for showing out and showing up,""
""If you sinners don't get right with the living God, God is going to put you in hell,""
""They burned in their lust... committing what is shameful,""
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier spent two months trying to shut down a Pensacola production of A Drag Queen Christmas, calling the show demonic, anti-Christian, and harmful to children. The December 23 performance sold out the city's 1,600-seat Saenger Theatre. Tour host Nina West thanked Pensacola for the turnout and noted the show marked the tour's 21st state stop in a 23-state run. Pensacola city council allowed the performance to proceed to avoid costly legal battles and potential contract violations. Hundreds spoke at council meetings in support, and members of the local gay men's chorus sang carols outside the venue. Christian counterprotesters gathered outside with signs and loudspeaker warnings.
