"Martino abused his role as a ransomware negotiator for five companies by providing the BlackCat/Alphv cybercrime group with information useful in negotiating a ransom payment. This confidential information assisted the ransomware actors and maximized the ransoms that the victims were required to pay."
"Law enforcement has seized $10 million worth of assets from Martino. Over 1,000 organizations were targeted in BlackCat ransomware attacks between November 2021 and December 2023, when the operation was disrupted by law enforcement."
Three individuals, including Angelo Martino, Kevin Martin, and Ryan Goldberg, pleaded guilty to participating in ransomware attacks while employed by cybersecurity companies. They were supposed to assist victims but instead aided attackers for ransom shares. Martino, a negotiator, provided confidential information to the BlackCat/Alphv group, which helped maximize ransom payments. The Justice Department reported that law enforcement seized $10 million in assets from Martino. Over 1,000 organizations were targeted in BlackCat attacks, which were disrupted in late 2023 after a $22 million ransom was paid.
