"That fear is heightened in the tech industry due to the high competency of AI tools in performing coding-related tasks. However, as highlighted in the session, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a 9% projected growth in computer and IT occupations from 2024 to 2034, compared to a 3% growth for all occupations. Furthermore, the same data show that the 2024 median salary for computer and IT occupations is twice that of the median salary for all other occupations."
More than 800 IT professionals across small, medium, and enterprise companies provided input on current IT trends and workforce dynamics. IT roles remain in demand even as AI capabilities increase, with a projected 9% growth in computer and IT occupations from 2024 to 2034 versus 3% for all occupations. The 2024 median salary for computer and IT occupations is roughly double the median for all occupations. Many organizations report difficulty hiring skilled IT talent. Rising AI competency raises concerns about job displacement while also increasing the importance of evolving human skills to stay competitive.
