"doctor too stupid."
Naheed Mangi, 70, altered a cancer patient database in 2013 after being fired from a Stanford study, replacing patient information with gibberish and insults such as "doctor too stupid." She was indicted in 2018 and convicted of intentional damage to a protected computer at a jury trial in February. Prosecutors sought a 10-month sentence split between jail and house arrest, but Senior U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila sentenced her to four years of probation. Mangi must pay $10,520.69 in restitution. She worked on a Genentech-sponsored experimental breast cancer drug trial, and prosecutors said the act betrayed patient trust and was motivated by hurt feelings from being fired.
