The damage includes shattered mirrored ceilings, broken archways, blown-out windows and debris inside halls."
"Known for its meticulously detailed frescoes, the palace of Chehel Sotoun is one of the most famous historic landmarks of the city of Isfahan, which is located about 450 kilometers (280 miles) south of Tehran. The 17th-century pavilion is part of another UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, the Persian Gardens."
UNESCO-listed cultural heritage sites in Iran have sustained damage from US-Israeli military strikes that commenced on February 28. Golestan Palace in Tehran, Iran's only UNESCO World Heritage Site in the capital and a complex of eight palatial structures built since the 1500s, suffered damage on March 2 from a nearby missile strike, including shattered mirrored ceilings, broken archways, and blown-out windows. Chehel Sotoun Palace in Isfahan, a 17th-century pavilion renowned for detailed frescoes and part of the Persian Gardens UNESCO World Heritage Site, also experienced damage. UNESCO has communicated World Heritage Site coordinates to all parties to prevent further damage and continues monitoring the situation to ensure protection of cultural heritage across the region.
