The ancient city of Olympos in Antalya, Turkey, has yielded new discoveries, including a Greek mosaic inscription from a 5th-century church, urging visitors to adhere to righteousness. Excavation lead Gokcen Kurtulus Oztaskin notes that Olympos has consistently presented archaeologists with intricate mosaics in recent years. Previous discoveries have confirmed the city's prominence in the Lycian League. Olympos has seen varied rulers, including Cilician pirates and Romans, reaching prosperity under Emperor Hadrian. Ongoing excavations, starting in 2006, have uncovered significant structures, affirming Olympos' status as a rich archaeological site.
The Greek inscription exhorts church-goers to walk the straight and narrow. It reads: Only those on the righteous path may enter here.
Olympos continues to surprise archaeologists with its wealth of mosaics. Similar discoveries had been made in 2017, 2022, and 2023.
These finds confirm Olympos as one of the richest ancient cities in the Lycia region in terms of mosaic flooring.
Comprehensive excavations at the site began in 2006, uncovering numerous important structures, including Church No. 1, Church No. 3, and monumental tombs.
