The guarantee is intended to ensure that intellectual curiosity, creativity, and talent determine educational opportunity rather than financial capacity. The college states that 55 percent of its students already receive financial aid and that it meets 100 percent of determined financial need for all students. Students from families above $200,000 may still qualify for financial aid. Similar tuition-guarantee programs have expanded recently, especially among selective private colleges with large endowments, with some public institutions also adopting them.
