"CGU has entered a process to ensure its long-term viability. We're aware of that process, and to maintain its fairness, we cannot offer comment at this time."
"Claremont Graduate University continues to explore a range of potential partnerships as part of our long-term strategic planning. These conversations are ongoing and confidential, and we want to ensure that any information we share is accurate and complete."
"Once there are updates appropriate for release, we will share them through our official channels."
"After much debate, we came to a consensus that we do not have the financial resources to continue going it alone as a graduate-only, comprehensive university. It was time to seek out a strategic partner or partners with a strong financial and academic foundation that by joining together would expand our opportunities for the future."
Pomona College is in negotiations to acquire Claremont Graduate University while CGU seeks a strategic partner to address financial challenges. Both institutions belong to the seven-institution Claremont Colleges consortium and are preparing a preliminary agreement expected by the end of the week. Public statements have been limited: Pomona cited fairness and declined further comment, and CGU described ongoing, confidential partnership conversations and pledged to share updates when appropriate. CGU began pursuing partner options at least as early as April 2024, engaged consulting firms, and had outreach contact more than 100 prospective partners.
