""The discussion about a 35-hour week is a red line for me. We will not cross it," Theirig said."
""(The election) will determine whether we can continue our successful path in the future in an independent, flexible, and unbureaucratic manner. Personally, I cannot imagine that the decision-makers in the USA will continue to push ahead with the factory expansion if the election results favor IG Metall.""
""The two lowest pay grades are not even used in car factories.""
Giga Berlin manager André Thierig rejected implementing a 35‑hour workweek, calling it a "red line" and saying the company will not cross it. He said a works council election expected in 2026 could determine whether the plant expansion continues and suggested U.S. decision‑makers might pause expansion if IG Metall gains influence. Thierig emphasized that Tesla has raised workers' salaries more substantially than other carmakers. IG Metall district manager Jan Otto said that without a collective agreement Tesla's wages remain significantly below those at other German car factories and highlighted pay‑grade differences.
