Guinea's authorities launched an investigation into deportations of Guinean citizens from Germany following widespread social media backlash. The Foreign Minister summoned Germany's charge d'affaires to demand explanations and respect for citizens' dignity. A bilateral commission of investigation was established between Guinea and Germany to address the matter. Germany's ambassador stated deportations followed bilateral agreements and German sovereignty, with 30 people deported in January 2026 compared to 20 in January 2025. Approximately 6,000 Guineans live irregularly in Germany. Guinea has become a major departure point for migrants seeking entry to North Africa and Europe, with an estimated diaspora of three to five million people.
