But Hamas denied any connection to the three men. According to German prosecutors, an AK-47 assault rifle and several pistols, along with a stash of ammunition, were seized when the suspects were arrested. "The weapons were to be used by Hamas for deadly attacks targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany," added the statement."

Federal prosecutors said the male suspects acted as foreign operatives involved in procuring firearms and ammunition for the organisation in Germany. Authorities seized an AK-47, several pistols and a stash of ammunition during the arrests. Searches were reported in Leipzig at the same time. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt praised law enforcement for averting a terrorist threat and noted a suspect had been under observation after entering Germany months earlier. Hamas denied any connection to the detainees.
