Mass. city mounts Christmas parade, fundraiser for first grader with brain tumor
"Local News The community has raised over $240,000 for Hadley Boucher's medical expenses. The city of Leominster held a Christmas parade for a first grader with inoperable brain cancer on Sunday. Hadley Boucher, 6, of Lunenberg, was diagnosed with the inoperable tumor on her brain stem in April, according to a GoFundMe page created for her family. Residents were asked to decorate their cars, dress up, and drive past the Boucher's house for "Haddie's Holly Jolly Christmas Parade," an event organizer posted on Facebook."
"When the page was created in late April, the GoFundMe's original fundraising goal was $100,000 for medical expenses. Now the goal is $250,000, and over $240,000 has been raised so far. "The Bouchers have always been the first to show up for others - with open arms, big hearts, and helping hands. Now it's our turn to show up for them," the fundraiser organizer, Stacey Houghton, wrote."
""I'm just blown away. There's no words that can explain this," Hadley's mother, Alyssa Boucher, told Boston25. "With everything our family is going through, I think seeing her smile and everything light up is what we need to cherish these moments and memories." Hadley, also known as Haddie B, is the youngest of three girls. "She's bright, sweet, and absolutely beautiful - a little girl whose light shines in everything she does," the GoFundMe reads."
Hadley Boucher, 6, of Lunenberg, was diagnosed in April with an inoperable tumor on her brain stem. Leominster residents organized "Haddie's Holly Jolly Christmas Parade," driving decorated cars past the Boucher home so Hadley could see and smile. A GoFundMe originally set a $100,000 goal for medical expenses and later increased the goal to $250,000; supporters have raised over $240,000 so far. Fundraiser organizer Stacey Houghton created a "Hope for Haddie" Facebook group, sold ornaments, and urged people from each of the 50 states to send Hadley Christmas cards. Family descriptions emphasize Hadley's bright, sweet personality and the community's reciprocal support.
