"The Talking France podcast team has a special episode looking ahead to what's happening in France in 2026 - from travel and immigration changes to cultural diary dates and what on earth might happen with French politics. Host Ben McPartland is joined by The Local France's Emma Pearson, John Lichfield and - for her last episode - Genevieve Mansfield for a special look ahead to next year in France."
"This year has been somewhat dramatic and chaotic on the political front - so is 2026 likely to be any calmer? We look ahead to the budget, the local elections, possible parliamentary elections and the ongoing political deadlock which doesn't appear to be going anywhere. You can find the Talking France podcast on Spotify or Apple, download it here or listen on the link below"
France faces continued political uncertainty in 2026 after a dramatic and chaotic year. The national budget, municipal elections and possible parliamentary elections could alter political balances while a persistent legislative deadlock remains unresolved. A major 2026 court hearing will determine whether Marine Le Pen's appeal against an embezzlement conviction succeeds, with significant implications for the 2027 presidential contest. New laws and regulations will take effect affecting foreigners and frequent visitors, including the EU's EES and ETIAS border control systems and newly introduced language tests and a civics exam. Those changes will affect visa checks, travel procedures and residency or naturalization requirements. Several cultural events and diary dates are also scheduled throughout the year.
