Hugo Ekitike has been selected for France's squad despite leaving Liverpool's Champions League defeat to Galatasaray injured. Ekitike was forced off in the second half in Istanbul and will travel for World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland after receiving his first call-up in August as a replacement for Rayan Cherki. Liverpool manager Arne Slot said Ekitike reported he could not continue and was withdrawn, with fitness to be assessed for the weekend. Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta earns his first senior call-up. Ousmane Dembele remains sidelined while William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate are included.
