Gisele Pelicot back in French court for appeal trial 'ordeal'
"She would have been happy to forgo this ordeal again,"
"But she is taking part to make clear that rape is rape, that there is no such thing as a small rape,"
"I'm not a rapist,"
"This is too much for me to bear. He's her husband. I never thought that guy could do this to his wife."
Gisele Pelicot will return to court for a short appeal next week after one of the 51 men convicted sought to overturn his verdict. Fifty-one men, including her former husband Dominique Pelicot, were convicted at a trial that ended in December 2024 for drugging and repeatedly sexually assaulting her over about a decade. Pelicot, 72, waived anonymity and became a public symbol against male sexual violence through dignified conduct. The appeal by Husamettin D. is due in Nîmes, is expected to last up to four days, and follows his nine-year sentence with delayed incarceration for health reasons.
