"Paris police headquarters "immediately opened an investigation" after the "publication of a photo showing one of its units holding a banner upside down", Paris police told AFP."
"The black banner, with the words "Antifa Feminists against transphobia and racism" written on it in red and white, was seized by police officers during a demonstration against sexual and gender-based violence on November 22 in Paris, according to Blast."
""That there are people who dishonour their uniform like these (officers) is one thing. That the hierarchy remains silent and that there isn't a single police officer who dares express their disagreement tells us a great deal about the danger women face from such individuals," said Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) party."
Police opened an investigation after a photograph showed uniformed officers posing behind a seized banner held upside-down. The image was published by Blast and was reportedly taken inside a police station. The black banner read "Antifa Feminists against transphobia and racism" and had been seized during a November 22 demonstration against sexual and gender-based violence in Paris. The photo shows about two dozen officers with faces concealed posing behind the banner. Jean-Luc Mélenchon condemned the conduct and criticized hierarchical silence. Rights groups accuse the force of right-wing bias and racism; the police say isolated misconduct does not reflect the whole force.
