French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu survived two no-confidence votes in parliament triggered by opposition to the European Union's trade agreement with the MERCOSUR bloc. The motions were filed by the far-right National Rally (RN) and hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) to protest the EU deal with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Both motions failed — the LFI motion received 256 votes, 32 short of the required majority, and the RN motion received 142 votes. The Socialist Party and the conservative Republicans declined to back censure. The government now faces difficult debates over the 2026 budget.
