France will deploy 90,000 police officers across the country for New Year's Eve, with 10,000 officers assigned to Paris to address heightened security concerns. Officials say the terror threat remains elevated year-round and that December 31st will require particular vigilance to prevent both terrorist incidents and urban violence. Authorities have warned they will act against traditional December 31st disorder, including vehicle burnings, and the justice minister has urged police chiefs to deal "firmly" with troublemakers. The Champs-Élysées concert was cancelled for crowd-control reasons, but fireworks and an Arc de Triomphe light show will continue amid road and Metro closures. Some towns are holding fireworks while others opt for quieter celebrations.
