"The chèque energie is financial aid intended for people on modest incomes to help pay winter energy bills - despite the name, most people don't get a physical cheque, the money is transferred to your bank account. This is means-tested - eligible households are identified by their Revenue fiscal de référence (RFR) - taxable income - which you can find on your annual tax declaration, as well as the number of people living under the roof of the holder of the electricity supply contract."
"Households identified as eligible will be notified by email or text message in October. Payments will be sent to them, without any action required on their part, in November. This year the payment is between €48 and €277, depending on the household income. However, if you haven't received a notification, and think you should receive help with your winter energy bills, you can apply for access to the scheme."
Nearly four million households in France can expect an annual means-tested chèque énergie payment in November to help cover winter heating costs. The chèque énergie provides financial aid to people on modest incomes and is usually paid by bank transfer rather than a physical cheque. Eligibility is determined by the Revenue fiscal de référence (RFR) and the number of people registered on the electricity supply contract, information shown on the annual tax declaration. Eligible households will be notified by email or text in October and payments range from €48 to €277 depending on income. Those not automatically identified can apply online via France Connect or a personal account, or by post, with both application routes open until February 28, 2026. Foreign residents qualify if they have lived in France for at least one year and filed a tax declaration the previous year. Postal applications must be sent to Services and Payment Agency, TSA 30500, 69307 Lyon CEDEX 7.
