Paramount will release Rush Hour 4 directed by Brett Ratner after funding and a distribution agreement were secured following lobbying by Donald Trump to Larry Ellison, the largest shareholder of the new Paramount Skydance. Ratner retreated from Hollywood after numerous sexual misconduct allegations in 2017 and faced a defamation lawsuit he filed against Melanie Kohler, which settled in 2018. Ratner recently directed a $40 million Melania Trump documentary for Amazon MGM. The franchise's first three films grossed over $850 million worldwide and were particularly successful in China. Ratner had struggled for years to finance the fourth film until new backing emerged.
