""Ghost elephants are giants living in this high altitude forest like a temple, up there in the sky," according to Boyes. Determined to prove their existence, Boyes and some of the last remaining master trackers in the world head to forests in the highlands of Angola and go on the epic journey in pursuit of an animal many believe to be a myth."
""The largest elephant ever. It doesn't matter if they are a dream or reality." National Geographic's latest documentary film, "Ghost Elephants," follows Nat Geo explorer Steve Boyes to locate the largest land mammals ever recorded. In the trailer, Boyes worries about finding the elusive elephants, "I don't even know if these elephants exist, the way I imagine them." What are the ghost elephants of Lisima?"
An expedition searches Angola's highlands for legendary "ghost elephants"—giant land mammals imagined to live in a high-altitude forest described as a temple. Explorer Steve Boyes expresses uncertainty about whether such elephants exist as imagined. The search teams include some of the world's last master trackers who travel deep into remote forest in pursuit of an animal many consider mythical. The film was directed, narrated and written by Werner Herzog and premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Herzog received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. The film opens in select North American theaters on February 27, airs on National Geographic March 7, and streams on Disney+ and Hulu the following day. The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of National Geographic, Disney+, Hulu and this ABC station.
