Rob Nilsson is a veteran filmmaker with over fifty years of experience who has achieved significant industry recognition, including the Camera d'Or at Cannes and the Grand Prize at Sundance. Despite his prestigious accolades, Nilsson identifies as a populist filmmaker committed to anti-commercial, independent cinema that serves ordinary people. He co-founded the radical Marxist film collective Cine Manifest in the 1970s and established the Tenderloin yGroup in the 1990s, a drama workshop for unhoused and inner-city residents whom he cast in his films. Currently residing in Berkeley, Nilsson leads Citizen Cinema drama workshops and has remastered his complete filmography. He is presenting selected films through his Points Around the Bay Film Retrospective at his home studio, with all proceeds donated to the Faithful Fools Ministry and the Tenderloin Museum.
