Real Madrid star criticises Villarreal vs Barcelona being played in Miami; fires shots at Laporta | Barca Universal
"The Miami match adulterates the competition. It's easy to talk about the NBA or the NFL; they play a lot of games, and all the teams have voted on it,"
"Here it's the opposite, La Liga is doing it because it wants to; moreover, it doesn't comply with the players' agreement. We have to play at home and away; it's not the same to go to Miami. Villarreal are very difficult at home."
"I think Laporta says that about the white hand because he has to say it because of the Negreira case. I've never noticed that they've favoured us, quite the opposite in fact. Referees are human, I don't feel that they've benefited us,"
Real Madrid formally objected to La Liga's decision to stage the Villarreal–Barcelona match in Miami on 20 December despite UEFA approval. The club wrote to Spain's Higher Sports Council (CSD) to express concerns. Captain Dani Carvajal and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stated the relocation adulterates the competition and breaches the players' agreement. Courtois argued that home-and-away fixtures must be preserved and noted Villarreal's strength at home. Courtois also criticised Barcelona president Joan Laporta's "white hand" remarks linked to the Negreira case, saying referees have not favoured Barcelona. The upcoming Clasico at the Santiago Bernabéu will carry extra tension.
