Man dies in Tipperary after getting into difficulty while fishing in river

A male encountered difficulties in the water in Carrick-On-Suir, County Tipperary, on July 1 at around 8.30pm. His body was recovered, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A major search operation involved the rescue 117 helicopter. The man was a well-known local family man out fishing with friends. Cathaoirleach David Dunne extended sympathies, calling it a tragic accident for the family and community. Inland Fisheries Ireland is coordinating with An Garda Síochána regarding the incident.
"Investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson.
Local reports are that he was out fishing with his friends when he got into difficulties as he attempted to swim in a certain section of the river.
It's a tragic accident that happened last night, particularly for his family, and for the people of Carrick," he said.
IFI is continuing to liaise with An Garda Síochána in relation to the incident.
