"significant progress in improving academic outcomes for multilingual learners,"
UP Academy Holland in Dorchester will exit state receivership and return to local control at the end of the year pending exit assurances. Dearborn STEM Academy in Roxbury and Mary L. Fonseca Elementary School in Fall River will lose their 'underperforming' designations. Fonseca was designated underperforming in 2014 and showed significant progress in improving academic outcomes for multilingual learners. UP Academy Holland had been in receivership for more than a decade and showed significant improvements in areas highlighted in its 2014 turnaround plan. Some parents urged officials to keep UP Academy Holland under state control, citing student performance.
