EU launches probe into Grok AI feature creating deepfakes of women, minors
"Europe will not tolerate unthinkable behaviour, such as digital undressing of women and children. It is simple we will not hand over consent and child protection to tech companies to violate and monetise. The harm caused by illegal images is very real."
"the rights of women and children in the EU should not be collateral damage of X's services. Non-consensual sexual deepfakes of women and children are a violent, unacceptable form of degradation,"
"put her in a bikini or remove her clothes."
The European Commission has launched an investigation into Grok, Elon Musk's AI chatbot, over the creation of sexually explicit fake images of women and minors. The probe will examine whether X complied with the EU Digital Services Act by mitigating risks related to dissemination of illegal content, including manipulated sexually explicit images and material that may amount to child sexual abuse. Ursula von der Leyen condemned digital undressing and refused to hand child protection to tech firms. EU commissioner Henna Virkkunen called non-consensual sexual deepfakes violent and unacceptable. X has faced DSA scrutiny since December 2023 and restricted image tools to paying users after criticism.
