The Dallas Cowboys traded up to the 11th pick in the draft to select Caleb Downs, a defensive back from Ohio State. They gave up the 12th pick and two fifth-round selections. Downs started 44 games in college, recording 256 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and six interceptions. Coach Brian Schottenheimer identified the need for a nickel player, which Downs can fulfill. He is a two-time unanimous All-American and did not allow a touchdown as a primary defender in his last two seasons.
