'The Punisher: One Last Kill' Review: Bold For All The Wrong Reasons

"Where was Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) for the entirety of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2? That's a question that inevitably kept popping up as the Punisher's absence throughout Wilson Fisk's war against vigilantes became more glaring. Shouldn't one of New York's most infamous vigilantes be number one on the Anti-Vigilante Task Force's list? Especially after he brutally murdered a bunch of them for wearing his insignia at the end of Season 1? But no, apart from a mention every now and then, Frank was a non-entity for the second season of Born Again."

Frank Castle remains largely absent from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, despite his notoriety and prior violence against vigilantes. The Punisher: One Last Kill is set during the same timeframe as Season 2 and follows Frank over two days. He finishes killing those responsible for his family’s murder, including the Gnucci Crime Family. With the Gnuccis destroyed, the criminal underworld fills the void and escalates violence in poorer New York neighborhoods, including Frank’s own area. Ma Gnucci confronts Frank and reveals she has placed a bounty on his head. Frank must endure both emotional collapse and physical danger while fighting his way out of a rundown apartment building.
