"On Friday, hundreds of people gathered at the memorial for the victims of the shooting. Some were seen holding up pictures of their loved ones who had been killed. Many people also travelled from other British Columbia towns to show support to the isolated community of Tumbler Ridge, located 1,180 kilometers (733 miles) north of Vancouver. Carney and Poilievre were joined by leaders of several smaller parties at the candlelight ceremony."
A deadly shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia killed multiple family members and school victims, including five children and an educator, before the alleged shooter died by suicide. Authorities say the alleged shooter killed her mother and 11‑year‑old step‑brother at home and then opened fire at the secondary school. Hundreds of people gathered at a memorial and candlelight vigil where politicians, including the prime minister and opposition leader, stood together and Indigenous leaders offered prayers. Community members and visitors from other towns held photos of the victims and sought to support the grieving, isolated community.
