A devastating fire engulfed a three-story apartment building in Baldwin, Nassau County, affecting nearly 200 residents and resulting in the destruction of 48 units. The fast-moving blaze, which started on the top floor, prompted a large emergency response with over 100 firefighters battling the flames for two hours. Fortunately, the fire's cause was determined to be an accidental electrical malfunction, not suspicious in nature. As residents like Derick Martin and Angelina De Los Santos recounted their harrowing escapes and losses, fire officials reported that the building would be condemned due to severe structural damage.
The fire was ahead of us when we got here. They brought lines up, they opened up the roof. More than 100 first responders worked together for two hours to control the blaze.
