"SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for two missing surfers near the Santa Cruz Lighthouse. The Coast Guard received a report from bystanders of two surfers in the water yelling for help approximately 200 yards offshore around 6:30 p.m. Friday. At the time, the waves were between seven and nine feet. Boats and aircrew were sent out to look for the surfers."
"At around 8 a.m. local time on Saturday, the Coast Guard suspended the search after the Coast Guard and partner agencies searched more than 90 miles. "The decision to suspend a search weighs heavily on all crews involved," said Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Zapawa, search and rescue mission coordinator at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, in a press release. "That decision is based on careful evaluation of all available information, including extensive search efforts, environmental conditions, and survivability assessments.""
