Procter & Gamble is launching Tide evo, a waterless detergent square designed to replace liquid and pod formats. Each palm-sized, plain white tile contains six woven fiber layers of cleaning materials that dissolve in cold water, reducing energy use and eliminating plastic and liquid packaging. The tiles ship in a compact, recyclable box that reduces packaging and shipping costs. A 42-tile box retails for $19.99 on Amazon versus $12.97 for 42 Pods. The product took about a decade to develop and aims to create a new revenue stream in the $25 billion laundry care market, following Tide Pods' rise to a $2 billion annual business.
