New City Initiative Strengthens LGBTQ+ Health Care in Brooklyn
Briefly

The city has introduced the Community Coalition to Counter Attacks on Care to enhance health care access for LGBTQ+ residents, focusing on Brooklyn. The initiative aims to dismantle stigma and misinformation, working closely with community organizations to provide education on patient rights and ensure safe care. Funding will support local transgender and LGBTQ+ groups, while partnerships with NYC Health + Hospitals clinics will promote awareness. Investments in diagnostic tools and training will improve health services tailored for LGBTQ+ individuals. The NYC Unity Project serves as a digital resource hub for the community.
Local groups serving transgender and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers will receive funding to support staff salaries, enabling health advocacy and education to become a lasting part of their mission.
The initiative includes investments in diagnostic equipment and staff training to improve cancer screenings and other services tailored for LGBTQ+ patients.
"Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life - free from stigma and fear," said NYC Chief Equity Office and Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice Commissioner Sideya Sherman.
Providers at these centers receive training to deliver responsive and respectful care that meets the needs of LGBTQ+ patients.
