"It's difficult to conceive of something more tragic than a child being born and then ignored to the extent it leads to death by malnourishment and sheer neglect."
"Reed and Winn never sought any medical care for the infant as her health continued to significantly deteriorate."
A 5-week-old infant born Dec. 5, 2024 died in January weighing about 2.5 pounds after failing to gain or maintain weight and becoming severely malnourished. The infant was born at least two months premature; the pregnancy had been discovered in September 2024 with a February due date. Reed and Winn lived together in Dorchester and allegedly never sought medical care as the infant’s condition deteriorated. Reed called 911 on the morning of Jan. 9; the infant was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center. The Chief Medical Examiner cited acute intoxication from fentanyl and cocaine, malnourishment, and sepsis. A Suffolk County grand jury indicted both parents on manslaughter; both pleaded not guilty.
