"Identify suspicious offers this Black Friday"
"It's gift-giving season - verify your purchase."
"People need to stay alert,"
The Catalan Government has launched a campaign to help shoppers recognise and avoid rising cyber scams during Black Friday and the Christmas rush. The campaign teaches how to spot suspicious websites, fake discounts and misleading ads, and uses familiar CAPTCHA imagery to remind users to verify links. Cybersecurity firm Trend Micro reports that seven out of ten promotional emails around Black Friday are fraudulent, often polished to resemble real brands. Authorities warn that fraud attempts are increasing in frequency and sophistication, aided by artificial intelligence, making scams harder to detect during high-distraction shopping periods.
