"Despite the dreary rain, Portland is rich in new exhibits this month. The Portland Art Museum's grand opening is slated for the end of the month with free admission days and fun events. Froelick Gallery's show celebrates the legacy of the beloved Jamison/Thomas Gallery with an art sale supporting one of Pacific Northwest College of Art's scholarships. Bright colors and high energy swirls around the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education with Steve Marcus' special psychedelic show."
"In addition to the rehung permanent collection galleries, the museum features a new exhibit of over 100 works from Japanese painter and printmaker Yoshida Chizuko (1924-2017). This exhibit features many works on view for the first time, showcasing the evolution of Chizuko's career. Styles and themes of Chizuko's work range from avant-garde abstraction to neon photoetchings and scenes of the natural world."
"Happy November! Did anyone notice the time change? I sure did! The sun sets at five o'clock now and I can't help but feel a little sad about it. During this month of darkness, I want to remind us of the exuberance of our world, community, and local art galleries! I'm sure we could all use a little pick-me-up and what is a better way than to delve into the excitement of new exhibitions?"
November brings a surge of new exhibitions across Portland despite shorter days and rainy weather. The Portland Art Museum reopens November 20 with a four-day free admission celebration, rehung permanent galleries, and renovations to tour. The museum presents over 100 works by Japanese painter and printmaker Yoshida Chizuko, many shown for the first time, spanning avant-garde abstraction, neon photoetchings, and natural scenes while noting her role as a woman artist in 20th-century Japan. Froelick Gallery honors the Jamison/Thomas Gallery legacy with an art sale supporting a PNCA scholarship. Other highlights include Steve Marcus' psychedelic show and Indigenous artisans featured at Coos Art Museum.
