Star Trek's Chris Pine to make London theatre debut in Ivanov next summer
"Star Trek's Chris Pine will boldly go to the Bridge next summer but the actor, best known for playing James T Kirk in the sci-fi reboot, is swapping the starship for the stage. For his London theatre debut, Pine has been cast in the title role of a new version of Chekhov's early play Ivanov by Australian writer-director Simon Stone."
"Pine, who performed in theatre productions while studying English at the University of California in Berkeley, had lead roles in the US in The Atheist by Ronan Noone (in New York in 2006) and The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh (in Los Angeles in 2010). His films have included Wonder Woman, Don't Worry Darling and the 2023 mystery Poolman, which the actor also co-wrote and directed."
Chris Pine will make his London theatre debut as the title role in Simon Stone's new version of Chekhov's Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre in July. Simon Stone is known for updating classics and for writing new scenes throughout rehearsals; his update of Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea is currently running at the Bridge. Pine performed in theatre while studying English at the University of California, Berkeley, and previously led US productions of The Atheist (New York, 2006) and The Lieutenant of Inishmore (Los Angeles, 2010). Film credits include Wonder Woman, Don't Worry Darling and the 2023 mystery Poolman, which he co-wrote and directed. Chekhov's 1887 play concerns a heavily indebted landowner whose marriage reaches breaking point, and recent notable stagings include versions by Tom Stoppard (2008) and David Hare (2015).
